Nurturing relationships at origin has allowed us to find great-tasting, quality coffee and means farmers, mills and co-ops have a reliable purchasing partner season to season.

Sourcing Partners

We believe in working directly with partners at origin to source coffee for the long term.

We buy the majority of our coffee through partnerships in seven countries. We've been working with the majority of our partners for over five years – our longest relationship dates back to 2000, the year we started buying from origin.

Nurturing these relationships has allowed us to find great-tasting, quality coffee and means our sourcing partners have a reliable purchasing partner season to season.

Social, economic, and environmental initiatives at origin

From implementing enhanced environmental practices to improving coffee quality, we've put together a couple of examples of some of the work our partners have got up to in the last few years. Working with farmers, co-op partners, and their communities, read some of their stories below:

Racafe
We've worked with Racafe since 2008 to source Colombian specialty coffee.

Producing their yearly sustainability report, Racafe's work aims to have a positive impact in multiple fields of Colombia. The report speaks to improving environmental practices, improving farmer and farmworker quality of life, and increasing the coffee quality of the producers they work with.

You can read about how Racafe helped us improve coffee quality for export in Pescador.

NKG Bloom
You can read NKG's Sustainability Report and Responsibility Business Program here.

Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (including Stockler and SKN Caribecafe) has worked to set up support systems for smallholder farmers in Uganda, Honduras, Kenya, and Mexico.

Aiming to address the financial challenges that many of the world’s smallholder coffee farmers face in growing their business, NKG provide "smallholder farmers with the opportunities and resources they need to run their farms at full potential and enter a pathway out of poverty."

They've begun work on this by developing "a unique, risk-sharing credit solution with four lending organisations – DFC, IDH, BNP Paribas and Rabobank... The resulting $25 million Smallholder Livelihoods Financing Facility makes it possible for farmers to quickly and easily borrow funds as needed."

Cofinet
Cofinet is a 4th generation, family-owned business. It has programs in agroforestry, water conservation and runs producer internships. Cofinet’s Agroforestry program, involves growing a range of native trees in their dedicated nursery. When trees reach 1-2 years old, they are shared with coffee producers for free to plant amongst their coffee plantations to encourage healthy crop growth.

This is coupled with their partnership with Treeoma, who are committed to "regenerating tropical forests to mitigate the climate crisis, linking sustainable development with markets."

Royal Coffee
Family-owned and operated, Royal are among our oldest sourcing partners.

A pioneer of specialty coffee in the USA, the team source a range of Organic and Fair Trade certified coffees. Go check out their website for resources on sustainability in the coffee industry.
